How do I become a Christian?
You, are running the only race that is important – the race of life.
The rules for the race are found in God’s Word, the Bible.
Every race has a starting point. This is yours.
Begin now the race that will take you to Heaven.
“God so loved the world that He gave His only Son. Whoever puts his trust in God’s Son will not be lost but will have life that lasts forever.” John 3:16
God allowed His Son, Jesus, to take the punishment for sin in your place. To do that, Jesus died on a cross. “God showed His love for us. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
You ask, “What has this to do with me?” We have all done, said, or thought wrong things. These are sins and sin separates us from God. Romans 6:23 says, “You get what is coming to you when you sin. The punishment for sin is death for eternity.” But God loves you and wants you to be with Him forever.
Jesus rose from the place where He was buried and is now in Heaven with God, His Father. He offers you the gift of eternal life. Will you accept it?
How can you accept this gift? Believe that God exists and that He will do what He says He will do. Believe that Jesus took the punishment for your sins. Be sorry for your sins and surrender your life to God.
Every race has a finish line. In the race of life, “It is in the plan that all men die once. After that, they will stand before God and be judged.” Hebrews 9:27
What is this judgment? It is the time when God will ask you, “What did you do with the gift of eternal life that I offered you?”
Like everyone, you long for acceptance, for peace, for permanence. You will have all of these when you accept God’s gift of forgiveness.
Acceptance:
You are accepted into the family of God. “All those who are led by the Holy Spirit are sons of God…and we can call Him, ‘My Father.’” Romans 8:14, 15
Peace:
Jesus said, “My peace I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled or afraid.” John 14:27
Permanence:
Jesus said, “Because I live, you will live also.” John 14:19 “He who puts his trust in the Son has life that lasts forever.” John 3:36
Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can go to the Father except by me.” John 14:6
God says, “I know the plans I have for you, plans for well-being and not for trouble, to give you a future and a hope. Call upon me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will look for Me and find Me, when you look for Me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:11-13
You can pray to God in your own way. Or, you can pray this prayer.
“God, I know that You exist and that You love me. You gave your Son to die in my place. I know I have sinned. I confess my sins to you. I ask for your forgiveness, because Jesus offered it when He said on the cross, ‘Father, forgive them.’ I do trust that Jesus is Your Son, and that He died for my sins. I believe that He also rose from the grave and is alive. I open my heart to Jesus. Come into my heart, Jesus. Give me the eternal life that is promised to all those who believe in You. I ask this in the name of Jesus. Thank you for forgiving me. Thank you for coming into my heart. Thank you for giving me eternal life. Help me to run the Christian race all the way to the finish line where You will welcome me into the winner’s circle and eternal life. Amen.”
